sand bags and electrified wires in the roads were removed.
A regiment of our troops has been ent to the British
Concession, and for the time being it will not be
withdrawn. At 8.p.m. on the 4th the Central Committee sent
Tsui Him, Sun Fo and Tseung Tsok Pen to inform the public
at the new market that the government had already sent
troops into the Concession. The audience all clapped
their hands and cheered. All classes have decided to
establish the Hankow Citizen's Association for British
affairs on the 5th and to hold a grand demonstration.
On this day (the 4th) when the populace was on its way to the meating a body of Chinese constables rushed out from
the British Headquarters and wounded 8 of them with rifles.
This made the populace very angry, and several ten of
thousands of persons surrounded the Police Headquarters, and
did not disperse until Chan Kwan, the Kuomintang
Representative and the officers of the other Departments
had addressed them several times. Several thousand armed
British marines were posted in verious streets and the gun-
boats with their machine guns and cannons had steam up:
all prepared to destroy uchang and Hankow. Thereupon the
National Goverment definitely resumed possession of the
British Concession, and established the British Concession
Administrative Committee to maintain good order and peace.
Eugene Chen was appointed President of the Committee, and Sun Fo and Sung Taz Man members. The Kuomintang Representative
was withdrawn with the troops, leaving only about 100 pickets
behind. The Adminstrative Committee on assumption of their
office on the 7th called together the Consular Body and many leading foreigners, informed them that they had taken
charge of the Concession and assured them of proper protection
Since the tragedy took place many offers have been made by
the people from various quarters to render assistance, and
many telegrams sent giving an account of the many savage
butcherias
